Circle generator for Minecraft

Type a diameter and get the block plan: where each row starts and ends, how many blocks it takes and the total. Works for circles, ellipses, domes and spheres.

Game version: none needed, because this is block geometry and works the same in any version. Checked 2026-11-01 against a separate brute-force script of ours that tests the centre of every block. Not built in the game by us. Coordinate directions and the position displays come from minecraft.wiki, Coordinates, read 2026-11-01.

How to build a circle from the plan

    1. Pick the middle of the build and enter its X and Z, read from the F3 screen in Java or the Show Coordinates setting in Bedrock.
    2. Lay the row with the most blocks through the middle first, then work outward using the row table.
    3. For a dome or sphere, move up one Y level at a time with the layer slider. Each layer is its own plan.

    Odd or even diameter?

The number you type is the diameter, not the radius. An odd diameter has one centre block, which suits a doorway, a beacon or a tower with a single-block middle. An even diameter has no centre block, because its middle is the corner where four blocks meet. Pick even when the thing in the middle is two or four blocks wide.

How the shape is worked out

A block is part of the shape when the middle of that block falls inside a true circle, ellipse or sphere of that diameter. An outline keeps the blocks within your wall thickness of the outside edge. The block counts come straight from that test, so nothing is rounded by eye. Small circles look blocky: a diameter of 3 comes out as a solid 3 by 3 square, and 5 or more starts to read as round.

    Questions

How do you make a circle in Minecraft?

Choose a diameter, then copy the rows from the plan above, working out from the widest row. Blocks are square, so a circle is a set of straight runs that step in as you near the edge. The step pattern below the plan shows how long each run is.

What is the best size for a circle?

Odd diameters from 7 up are easiest, since they have a centre block to measure from. Below 5 a circle looks like a square or a plus. For a build that reads as clearly round from a distance, try 15 or more.

How many blocks are in a circle or sphere?

It depends on the size and wall thickness, and the total above updates as you type. As examples from this tool: a filled circle 21 blocks across takes 349 blocks, and its one-block outline takes 56.

How do I make a dome?

Choose Dome and use the layer slider to build from the bottom ring upward. A dome here is the top half of a sphere of the same diameter, so an odd diameter includes the middle ring as its first layer.

Do these plans work in Java and Bedrock?

Yes. The plan is only block positions, and both editions use the same block grid with X to the east and Z to the south.

Is this an official Minecraft tool?

No. BlockJig is an independent site, as the statement at the foot of each page says.
