Banner maker for Minecraft

Design a banner layer by layer, then get the items, the loom order and a /give command for your game version. Layers go on in order, so the last one sits on top.

Your banner

Preview colours are approximate. The eight symbol patterns (Creeper Charge, Skull Charge, Flower Charge, Thing, Globe, Snout, Flow, Guster) are our own stand-in drawings, so they look different in the game.

How to make it

Items:

We found no documented way for Bedrock's /give to set banner patterns, so this gives the blank banner. Add the layers in a loom with the steps above. All /give commands need cheats on.

How banners are made in the game

A banner takes 6 wool of one colour and a stick. Each pattern after that is one trip to the loom, using one dye. Ten patterns also need a banner pattern item in the loom's third slot: Field Masoned, Bordure Indented, Flower Charge, Creeper Charge, Skull Charge, Thing, Globe, Snout, Flow and Guster. That item isn't used up.

Game version: commands are labelled by version in the tool. The wiki describes the current game, and on 2026-11-01 the latest Java release on Mojang's version list was 26.3. We did not check the Bedrock version number, and we have not run these commands or loom steps in the game.

Sources: Banner, Banner Pattern, Loom, Shield, Chat, Command Block and Commands/give on minecraft.wiki, read 2026-11-01. The commands follow those documented formats.

Want to wear the same colours? Try them in the skin editor. Carrying the design on a shield? The enchantment calculator plans the anvil order for its books.

        Questions

How do you make a banner design in Minecraft?

Craft a banner, place it in a loom with a dye, choose a pattern and take the result. Repeat for each layer. The list above gives the order for your design.

How many patterns can a banner have?

Six from a loom in both editions. In Java, commands can show up to 16, and the maker warns you when a design goes past 6.

Can I get a custom banner with a command?

In Java, yes: copy the command for your version and run it with cheats on. The wiki lists 256 characters for chat messages and 32,500 for command blocks, so paste a very long command into a command block. For Bedrock we found no documented way to set patterns with /give.

Does layer order change the result?

Yes. A later layer covers what is under it, so a border added first can be hidden by a big shape added second. Use the arrows in the layer list to reorder: higher in the list goes on earlier.

Can I put a banner on a shield?

Yes, a shield with no pattern yet can take a banner in a crafting grid. This uses up the banner. Shields show patterns at half the resolution of a banner, so the design can look slightly different.

        Is this tool official?

No. BlockJig is an independent site, and its pattern art is drawn by us rather than taken from the game.
